This week's show is archived until August 4th at http://wrtc.streamrewind.com/bookmarks/listen/412606/rock-roots-rock-radio Here's the playlist:

    1. REBEL ‘ROUSER, Duane Eddy

"Peter Gunn" just beats this as my all time favorite Duane Eddy number
    but its certainly my instrumental
    #1 for 1958

    1. Rebel Rouser Duane Eddy – 1958
    2. Rumble Link Wray - 1958
    3. Tequila Champs – 1958
    4. Ramrod Diuane Eddy – 1958
    5. Manhattan Spiritual Reg Owen – 1958
    6. Guitar Boogie Shuffle Virtues – 1958
    7. Cannon Ball Duane Eddy - 1958
    8..Moovin’ And Groovin’ Duane Eddy – 1958
    9. Detour Duane Eddy - 1958
    10. Poor Boy Royaltones - 1958

    2. BOP-A-LENA, Ronnie Self

The one and only Ronnie Self record to get UK release---and then ONLY as
    a 78RPM release.

Incidentally I note that the 1970's boot on Gustin label is now valued
    in double figures!

    8. THE FAT MAN, Fats Domino

His debut record and my #1 favorite record of 1950

    1. The Fat Man Fats Domino
    2. Please Send Me Someone To Love Percy Mayfield
    3. Mona Lisa Nat “King” Cole
    4. Stack-A’Lee Archibald
5, Mardi Gras In New Orleans Professor Longhair

    9. ROBERTA, Frankie Ford

Originally by Huey "Piano" Smith as "Loberta" (sic) but unreleased for
years (see the "TEN FAVE UNRELEASED TRACKS FROM....1958" thread on here)

    10. HEARTACHES, The Marcels

A song I've never really warmed to that much in ANY version...similar
style to "Blue Moon" here of course but not in the same class

    11. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, James Brown & The Famous Flames

Up there with "Maybellene" and "Bo Diddley"---and yeah "The Fat Man"
(see above) ---as one of the GREATEST record debuts of all time

    13. MOONGLOW YOU KNOW, The Videos

Excellent flip to their even better "Trickle Trickle"

    14. CRYING, WAITING, HOPING, Buddy Holly

One of the more moderate home taped overdubs that served as the flipside
to one of his best ever home taped efforts----"Peggy Sue Got Married"

    15. RED HOT, Billy Lee Riley

Excellent revival of the Billy "The Kid" Emerson number (also on
Sun)---and recorded January 30 1957 with a session crew including Jerry
Lee Lewis (pno) and Ace Cannon (sax)

Here's how the original 1955 Emerson version sounds :-

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2SRmaTUzNs

    16. SH-BOOM, The Chords

If you thought it couldn't get any worse than the Crew Cuts then you've obviously never heard of The Johnson Brothers.........

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHJ-OeHwbRU

    18. HOT ROD IS HER NAME, Tom Tall & The Tomcats

Here's one that's new to me..not too impressed on first hearing but I'll
    give it a few spins.....

    19. I’M LEAVING IT UP TO YOU, Dale & Grace

'Fess up time....I for one like this version better than the dull Don &
    Dewey original

    21. CATCH A WAVE, The Beach Boys

One of my top Beach Boy favorites rating an 8 on my 1963 favorites list.
It worked quite well later too
for Jan & Dean as "Sidewalk Surfin'"

    23. GOD ONLY KNOWS, The Capris (feat. Rena Hinton)

My Top Femme (or Femme led) singles for 1954 says it all.......

    1. God Only Knows Capris
    2. I Smell A Rat Willie Mae Thornton
    3. Annie’s Answer Hazel McCollum & El Dorados
    4. Mercy Me Lil Greenwood (Lamplighters)
    5. Sick And Tired Lula Reed

    27. LONESOME TRAIN, The Johnny Burnette Trio

One of the highspots of the "Rock Rock Rock" movie..and now in (faked
    up) COLOR!!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uh2nb8788Rg

    28. YOU CAN’T CATCH ME, Chuck Berry

    And here's another..........

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWt2LM-3m9E

    32. WILL YOU LOVE ME TOMORROW, The Shirelles

An all time favorite gal group record and #3 on my fave femmes list for
    1960

    1. A Fool In Love Ike & Tina Turner
    2. At Last Etta James
    3. Will You Love Me Tomorrow Shirelles
    4. Bye Bye Baby Mary Wells
    5. I Just Want To Make Love To You Etta James

    34. WHEN MY BLUE MOON TURNS TO GOLD AGAIN, Elvis Presley

One of the (very few) good things about being a rock 'n' roll fan here
in the UK in the 1950's was getting this great Elvis recording on a
45rpm single (as the flip to "Paralyzed")

    43. CHANTILLY LACE, The Big Bopper

One of the best examples of a record I loved (and wore out playing) as a
kid but that I can't stand now is "Chantilly Lace". Sorry but that's how
    it is.

Another example is "Rockin' Robin". Loved 'em both then but hate 'em now

    This one works - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qx7creLTixo

It's really bad, but not as bad as the Crew Cuts. At least they don't
make up parts that are not in the Chords version like the Crew Cuts did
with "Sh-boom, sh-boom, fa, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la,
    la, la

OTOH I bought it when it came out (Colpix) and it still sounds good to
me. When they did "Melancholy Baby," though, that's when I got off the bus. ---------

I also still like both of them, but "Chantilly" is a 7 whereas "Robin"
    is a 9.

How was this YouTube playlist created:

    . in Notepad++ open Songs.txt
. select all existing contents of Songs.txt with ctrl-A
. copy and paste "Roots Rock" playlist into Songs.txt
. Edit > Line Operations > Remove Empty Lines
    . find:Æ {this slanted apostrophe upsets YouTube searches}
    . replace with:'
    . find:(\d|\d\d). {remove playlist numbers}
    . replace with:<blank>
    . find:(.*) {append "Topic" to each song - to find best audio}
    . replace with:$1 Topic
    . save Songs.txt
. go to DOS command prompt and enter:
    . youtube-dl.bat {get a YouTube link for each item in Songs.txt}
    . 6 minutes later enter: type yturls.txt {found links}
. copy and append contents of yturls.txt to Songs.txt in Notepad++
. read found links info in Songs.txt looking for any errors
. a link had to be found manually for:
. GOD ONLY KNOWS, The Capris
. run a macro that creates a playlist for all links in Songs.txt

On this occasion this "Roots Rock" process took less than 12 minutes
    - timewise, much depends on how many playlist items have to be
found manually after the programmed auto find.
