The Pacific Gas and Electric Co. is warning customers in parts of Northern California that it may shut off the power to lower the risk of fires this weekend because of dry conditions and expected dry winds.

PG&E said it will likely shut off power in parts of San Joaquin, Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Merced and San Benito counties starting Saturday
around 11 a.m. or noon. The shutoffs would last until around 11 a.m. or noon
    on Sunday.

PG&E initially said some Stanislaus County residents may be included, but
they are now off the list as of 9:40 p.m. Friday.

The PSPS program is designed to lower the risk of PG&E’s equipment sparking fires that could spread during dry and windy conditions.

“Meteorology is tracking [the] potential for stronger than normal westerly winds to develop Saturday afternoon and evening through coastal gaps and
passes and over terrain adjacent to the west Central Valley such as the Altamont Pass and San Luis Reservoir area,” PG&E said. “High-resolution models show potential wind gusts in localized areas near 50 mph. There may
be a few critical hours Saturday afternoon with gusty winds and low relative humidity before humidity recovers during the evening and overnight Saturday into Sunday.”

See below for a map of the areas that are likely to be impacted this
    weekend.
